The look of a home is mostly shaped by the appearance of the walls, influencing our choices of colors. The color and style of the walls often set the tone for the entire home decor.
Besides using latex paint, various other methods for wall decoration cater to those who seek individuality.
1. Wooden Planks:
Wooden flooring is not confined to the ground; it can also find a place on your walls! Using wooden planks on a single wall is effective in any space. Extending these planks upwards creates a visually elongated effect.
Opting for wooden planks that match the floor color provides continuity, giving a seamless and extended feeling to the whole space.
Opting for a light, natural wood color that is close to white enhances light reflection, making the room appear brighter. Installing long and narrow wooden planks vertically visually elevates the height of the space.
2. Wood Veneer Panels:
For those who desire a textured wooden wall with a cohesive look, large wooden veneer panels are more suitable than wooden planks. Densely installing these panels eliminates visible gaps, enhancing overall cohesion.
The color and texture options for wood veneer panels are diverse, and using a similar color as the wooden floor creates a sense of extension. Covering both walls and ceilings with wooden veneer panels visually separates different areas within the room.
3. Cultural Brick Walls:
Cultural bricks have become popular as a wall decoration due to their appealing textured layers. When choosing cultural brick walls, it's essential to ensure the overall style of the home aligns with the brick wall for the desired effect.
Pairing cultural brick walls with beige or gray furniture creates a fresh and comfortable ambiance. Options include red bricks and white bricks. White cultural bricks can brighten up a white space, ideal for a small fresh Nordic style, complementing wooden furniture and fabric sofas.
Grouting, typically 1cm wide, can be done using either white or gray cement after the clear coat dries. White cultural bricks may require an additional coat of white latex paint.
4. Half-wall Wainscoting:
For a touch of elegance and a slightly retro styling, consider half-wall wainscoting. Wainscoting panels are pre-formed, offering high compressive strength, superior durability, and resistance to wear and stains compared to wall paint and wallpaper.
No additional painting is required after installation, eliminating strong odors and making it environmentally friendly. Wainscoting panels can also diffuse sound, reducing noise levels.
The optimal height for half-wall wainscoting is 90 cm, but adjustments can be made based on personal preferences and the overall style of the space. Harmonizing the colors of the wainscoting panels with the furniture creates a more unified space.
5. Fiber Cement Board:
For those desiring the look of cement walls without the challenges of real cement, the fiber cement board is an excellent choice. It has construction difficulty similar to tiles and offers a more authentic texture, providing a warmer touch than waterproof cement bricks.
These panels are typically a single piece, requiring precut design dimensions for customizing shapes, such as geometric patterns. Leaving intentional gaps when attaching to the wall and using black grout enhances overall consistency in style.
Applying a protective coating not only highlights the texture of the stone panels but also provides waterproof and oil-resistant properties, making maintenance more convenient.
