What is Pickleball?

It is a sport that originated from Bainbridge Island in Seattle, USA, where players use paddles to hit a ball. It combines elements of tennis, badminton, and table tennis, making it suitable for people of all ages to participate in, providing both fun and benefits.

Origin of Pickleball:

The birth of Pickleball can be traced back to a summer in 1965 when US Congressman Joel Pritchard and his friend Bill Bell came up with a new game out of boredom at a vacation home on Bainbridge Island. They played a friendly match using ping-pong paddles and a plastic ball over a lowered tennis net.
They found the game very entertaining and realized it required minimal skill and strength, yet provided ample exercise and entertainment. They named this game "Pickleball" because Pritchard's dog Pickles often chased after the ball, adding to their amusement.

Development of Pickleball:

The founders of Pickleball did not intend to promote this game, but their neighbors and friends became interested, joining in on the fun. Pickleball gradually gained popularity in the Bainbridge Island and Seattle area.
Some physical education teachers and community leaders began establishing Pickleball courts in schools and parks, teaching and promoting the sport. In 1972, the first rulebook for Pickleball was published, and in 1976, the first national championship was held in Tacoma, Washington. In 1984, the USA Pickleball Association was established to develop and promote Pickleball, organize and support events and competitions, and drive the sport's development and popularity.
Through decades of promotion and media coverage, this novel, easy, and fun sport has gradually become popular across the United States. Today, Pickleball has over 3 million participants in the US, spread across various states and cities, making it a widely embraced sport.
